These paintings evolved and are a result of work from a sketch book I was using on a trip to the UK in 2016. I have always been fascinated by text. Using the alphabet as the motif, these works are an investigation into colour, form and communication.

I have made each of the 26 letters of the alphabet an independent painting but to make it more interesting, I have grouped them into 6 words with one floating letter, the Q. Thus the 26 paintings have become a Pangram ( A Pangram is a group of words or a sentence using every letter of the alphabet ).

When each letter is butted together to form a word it is not easy to recognise that word and the panels take on an abstract colour field quality and a guessing game to what the painting reads is an invitation to study the picture more thoroughly.

I have made this all the more fun by giving a cryptic title to each of these words.

They are painted in acrylic and charcoal on wooden panel, each 1220mm by 1820mm.  They are an investigation into colour.
